Imagine Recovery’s Clinical Director, August Boyd, LCSW-BACS, will be delivering a keynote presentation on Guided Imagery and the Healing Power of the Mind at the 2025 Association of Recovery in Higher Education (ARHE) Conference on Friday, June 27th, 10:15–11:45 AM in the St. Charles Ballroom at the Hilton Riverside Hotel.
Guided imagery is a gentle mental technique that directs our imagination inward to promote relaxation, self-discovery, and well-being. It is a conscious use of all our senses to visualize calming and healing scenarios that foster physiological change and regulate the nervous system.
August will clarify common misconceptions—like how movement is allowed during guided imagery and how anyone can incorporate this accessible mindfulness practice into their daily routine.
Guided imagery is particularly effective in supporting emotional regulation and coping with urges, including relapse prevention. It helps people prepare for triggers and build inner resilience by engaging the mind-body connection at the core of wellness.
As a foundation for many traditional therapies such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), guided imagery builds the ability to be present and aware, facilitating healing from the inside out.
August will offer practical applications of guided imagery for clinicians and non-clinicians alike. Attendees will gain tools and insights to incorporate this technique into their recovery journey or clinical practice.
You’ll also hear personal success stories and learn about the role of biofeedback in measuring the positive effects of guided imagery on physical and mental health.
